Yes living in the moment does create our future. but if it weren't from the learnings of the past we wouldn't Know that We Can/Do Create our future. We cannot/shouldn't forget the past and it's teachings that are helping us create a better future. To take those lessons and put them in the now creates our future. That's what they are there for.
